Junior outside hitter Emoni Bush attempts to tip the ball over the net during Washington's game against USC on Nov. 27, 2024 at Alaska Airlines Arena. On Feb. 11, Bush announced that she had transferred to Oklahoma.
Outside hitter Emoni Bush announced Feb. 11 that she had transferred to Oklahoma, while senior outside hitter Audra Wilmes announced a commitment to Kansas on Feb. 10.
The pair depart the Washington volleyball team after helping lead it back to the NCAA tournament in 2024.
Bush was a key piece to the Huskies’ 2024 success, leading the team with 295 kills, including an incredible 19-kill and 12-dig performance to push Washington to a massive road upset of then-No. 14 Minnesota. She also put together an incredible 11-kill and zero-error performance in a sweep over Iowa, as well as an 0.421 hitting percentage in the win over Northwestern.
If Bush had chosen to stay on Montlake in 2025, her explosiveness and veteran presence would have made her a top option in the Huskies’ quest to climb the Big Ten standings.
Wilmes played an important role off the bench for head coach Leslie Gabriel’s squad in 2024, and moved into the starting lineup later in the season due to injuries. Wilmes ranked sixth on the team with 153 kills, and fourth with 2.04 kills per set. The senior racked up an impressive 0.258 hitting percentage on 31 attempts against Loyola Marymount in the NCAA tournament, earning 12 kills in the process.
Oklahoma flamed out against No. 1 seed Pittsburgh in the second round of the NCAA tournament after finishing their 2024 campaign with a 15-11 record, including an 8-8 mark in the SEC. It was OU’s first NCAA tournament appearance since 2019.
Kansas finished second in the Big 12 last season with a 15-3 conference record, including a 25-5 record for the season. KU also departed in the second round of the NCAA tournament in a five-set duel with Florida. Kansas lost six seniors last year, and hope that Wilmes will fill some gaps in its roster.
